To limit the spread of fire and smoke within a building we must compartmentalise (divide the space into smaller sections in order to confine the fire), giving crucial extra time necessary for evacuation. Manufacturers of fire doors are required by law to demonstrate the ability of their products to resist the passage of fire. However, if they are not installed correctly, fire resistance capabilities can be seriously compromised.
